Kate the Peon asks:
I need a new deodorant. For years I have used either Secret or Dove, and now I feel like both of them fail me within minutes of putting them on. I don't like invisible ones and I have to have a solid. What do you recommend?
Currently, I use Dove. I think I have been using Dove for a year or so. Prior to that, I used Degree. I only use a regular solid and I only choose scents that aren't powdery or flowery. The reason I stopped using Degree is that I felt like it stopped working for me. What I think really happened was that I became so used to the scent that when I smelled it, I equated it with the smell of my armpits. Then, I think I became so used to the scent that I no longer smelled the deodorant, only my stinky pits.
That's my theory anyway. I haven't tested it because, during the time I have been using Dove, Degree stopped making the scent I used and I don't like any of the other ones.
My recommendation is to switch to Degree for awhile and then try switching back to whatever your favorite was.
I can try that! I do, by tradition though, go with a baby powder scent, so we'll see what Degree can offer up for me.

I used Degree for many years and thought it stopped working for me. The smell made me gag and I equated that to my armpits and thought holy shit, THAT is what I smell like?
I switched to Arrid XXdry. I switch between that and Suave and don't miss Degree at all.

I had that problem with Dove (which I LOVED because it made my armpits feel so smooth and wonderful). I honestly think that bodies just get used to some products to the point where they are no longer useful. Just like it's a good idea to switch shampoos once in a while, you need to switch up deodorants once in a while. When Dove stopped working for me, I switched to Soft and Dri and it does the job just fine. When it stops working for me, I'll go back to Dove.

i think that's a great idea. i use degree myself, the twist up kind not the roll on. the roll on's tend to rub the skin off of my pits. (is that common or just retarded me?)
prior to degree i used speed stick having picked it up from a former man slave.
i think your theory about your body getting used to it is spot on.

it is scientifically impossible for the body to become "used to" or immune to a product and to stop working as well. It is all in your head ladies...

Sally: That is exactly what I was saying. I got used to the scent of the deodorant, so I thought it was no longer working for me. My theory is that it never stopped working.

I use Lady Speed Stick 24/7. It's a solid and claims to be invisible but it definitely goes on white. I put it on once in the morning and rarely need to reapply.
My roommate uses the clinical strength formulas and swears by them. Those cost about double what regular deodorant does, but it might be worth a shot if switching to Degree or another regular brand doesn't work.

I sometimes use Mitchum unscented roll-on. It's man-deodorant, but it has no scent so it doesn't matter. It claims to be "so powerful, you could skip a day" to which I say EWWWW, who would want to? But it does work pretty well if you don't mind a roll-on.

Long time degree user here and I still swear by it. Although, admittedly, I only use the solid white stuff. I don't think their "LBD approved" clear crap works.

I am using Degree today. So far so good.

Degree smells strong. Clean, but strong. I am constantly getting a whiff of myself.
